COURSE PROJECT

Making home-gardening journey easier
            through systematic tracking

OVERVIEW

I designed and prototyped a product concept about making home gardening journey easier through features like tracking, alerts and making the process of buying a new plant more informational.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project was part of a course called Visual Design Studio as part of my master's degree in HCI at the University of Maryland.

PROBLEM

Many individuals desire to cultivate plants at home, but they face challenges in maintaining healthy plants due to a lack of knowledge, necessary guidance and difficulty adhering to plant-care routines amidst their busy schedules. By not getting help at the right time, they end up with dead plants or eventually drop the idea of gardening altogether.

"How can we support individuals in their home gardening journey to maintain a healthy plant ecosystem?"

SOLUTION

An app ecosystem to assist in buying the right plants, track plants' progress remotely and get alerts for different routines.

RESULTS

A Plant-care app

This project aims to create a plant care app, enhancing the plant care journey with augmented reality features. The app aids users in selecting and purchasing the right plant, monitoring its progress over time and various weather conditions. The app's visual style blends futurism and elegance.

Live Tracking through a sensor and tracked data visualization through AR scan

I conceptualized a live tracker for plant pots, capable of monitoring parameters such as soil moisture and mineral levels. The tracked data can be accessed through a mobile app or by scanning the QR code on the tracker in AR mode.
Real-time monitoring of moisture, sunlight, and minerals to determine fertilizer needs using a sensor device.
AR visualization of monitored parameters when the device is scanned with a phone camera.

Home page

Home page shows weather, current needed activities and upcoming activities.
The UI shows different shades of blue and icons based on weather
the shadow on container boxes represent the activity needed.

Blue - water
Yellow - sunlight
The UI mode (Light/Dark) changes automatically based on time (Day/night)

Plants page

Plants page has your plant inventory categorized into two different section (Home sites/All plants at once). You can see tracked parameters of individual plants and plant needs (Water/sunlight/humidity), and add new plants either manually or through scanning.
